Recently my spouse had an operation that required a good deal of physical therapy after discharge.  A rehab facility was recommended, but we wanted to go home and work on the therapy there.  I am 100% honest when I say that if I had not spent the last few years taking Shelly's Chair Yoga class I would never have been able to handle things at home.  The strength and flexibility I got from the classes were vital.  We always think that yoga is so good for our health, but we don't always consider that keeping ourselves in good shape can be so important to our spouse.  Thank you Shelly for helping make a challenging situation so much more manageable.

I have the most wonderful yoga teacher in the world. No kidding. Recently I found out that I needed extensive back surgery. And the physician’s assistant told me that I wouldn’t be standing as strong as I was without the yoga instructions I’d received. I applaud Shelly for all the classes, live and on-line, that we do. Even yesterday, in physical therapy, he was surprised at my progress. I explained that it was all because of my yoga training. I can’t wait to go back to full time classes and become even more physically fit. Thanks again Shelly for all that you do. And Namaste has become my “go to” word! Namaste!

I have been doing chair yoga with Shelly once weekly for 4 weeks and have found significant improvement in my balance and flexibility. I was somewhat apprehensive at first since my balance had been diminished as a result of chemotherapy, but my well being and outlook are much improved thanks to Shelly.

It's hard to begin to put into words how much Shelly's Chair Yoga class has helped me. I took my first class two and a half years ago. My wife thought it would be something good for the two of us. I told her I would rather take a REAL yoga class, but said I would go with her to the first class and then she was on her own. I was amazed how good I felt after the first class. So OK, I'll take another. We are now up to 3 classes a week and I am in better physical shape today that I was 10 years ago. My lung capacity has almost doubled, my balance is the best it has ever been and all the aches and pains that I had in my back are gone. And I know it's not just me because all of my neighbors that I talked into coming to the class keep coming back week after week. And all rave about how much better they feel. I read a quote a number of years ago that said "You are as young as your backbone is flexible". It is so true. And Shelly's class helps me feel younger every year.

I've been attending Shelly's Chair Yoga classes for a few years. I've been dealing with fibromyalgia, neuropathy and a failed knee replacement. Chair Yoga has helped me with the fibro pain, retaining strength and improving balance. These classes helped me with recovery and progress after recent knee replacement revision surgery. I'm sure it would have been more difficult without the progress I had made in her classes. Shelly is attentive to her students, monitoring their safety constantly, and she is just delightful!

​The benefits from Shelly’s Chair Yoga class are immeasurable. Trying to do some regular yoga poses had always been impossible for me. That’s why I decided to try chair yoga. In the beginning I was a little nervous about doing any of the poses off the chair. Now after a year of taking Shelly’s class, I can do just about anything everyone else in the class can do. My balance, flexibility and control have improved tremendously. I cannot say enough about the physical benefits from Shelly’s Chair Yoga class.

Dear Shelly, I wanted to thank you for all you’ve done for me with your Chair Yoga class at Heritage Isle.  It has been wonderful. Because both of my ankles are fused from an old injury, I have never really been able to take a traditional yoga class.  When you started your class in our area last summer I was excited to join.  I wasn’t sure if it would work out for me, but I wanted to give it a try.  What a difference it has made!  Not only has the breathing and relaxation training helped tremendously, but the balance training has really paid off.  Recently, I had a total knee replacement and the week following the surgery the physical therapist was trying to help me with my balance.  He had me look straight ahead, or up, or down and then tried to knock me off balance.  He couldn’t do it.  Within 2 weeks I was walking without even the use of a cane.  I am positive that your Chair Yoga class had a lot to do with my speedy recovery.  Thanks again for all your help.

My husband Jim and I have been attending Shelly's Chair Yoga class.  We both have noticed considerable improvement in our balance and flexibility. The exercises are not strenuous and incorporate reaching, stretching, neck, leg and foot rolls, increasing circulation in all parts of the body and balance practice.  Thank you Shelly!
